Abstract

Gold metal is one of the valuable metals with significant potential in Indonesia. However, the common extraction of gold using cyanide has a negative impact on the environment. One environmentally friendly extraction method is biosorption for metal recovery. The recovery process is the removal of valuable metals from the leaching solution and is divided into two, namely adsorption and desorption. The adsorbent used in this study is chitosan oligosaccharide nano membrane. This study aims to analyse the effect of temperature and desorption process time on nano chitosan oligosaccharide membrane in hydrometallurgical process. Adsorption was carried out at pH 1.75, with 200 rpm agitation at 55 oC for 4 hours. Then followed by desorption process using 0.1 M EDTA solution with 200 rpm agitation. Variations used for temperature are 40, 45, and 50 oC, while for time variations used are 4, 6, and 8 hours. The materials used were Ore from Gorontalo, Indonesia, analysed using XRD and EDX. Then, pretreatment was carried out in the form of microwave roasting with 800 watts of power for 4 hours. Based on EDX results, the gold content after microwave roasting is 3.73%. Then, the leaching process was continued with HCl + HNO3 reagents as much as 150 mL at a temperature of 100 oC with 140 rpm agitation for 4 hours. Based on UV-Vis testing, the absorbance value of the leaching solution was 2.563. Then validated using AAS, the concentration of gold in the leaching solution was 3 ppm. After the adsorption process, the solution was tested UV-Vis to determine the absorbance of the solution after adsorption. As a result, the concentration of gold that was successfully adsorbed had an average of 130.56 ppm. The desorption solution was tested using UV-Vis and AAS to determine the concentration of gold recovered. The desorption method with 0.1M EDTA at 40 °C for 6 hours proved to be the most effective. This is evidenced by the suitability of the FTIR graph of the desorption membrane with the initial membrane.
