Abstract

In this world, as time advances, energy also changes. From the beginning using wood to now changing to oil and gas. Indonesia is a country rich in oil and gas. Therefore, the oil industry, especially in Indonesia, will help advance the country's economy. However, one of the biggest problems in the oil industry is erosion in piping, especially at elbow joints. In this study, an analysis of the type of naphtha fluid flow that occurs in the 12", 14" and 16" diameter elbows of the heat exchanger piping was carried out. The method used in this study is analysis with the help of Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) software, with the initial step being the calculation of the Reynolds number using field data at PT. Pertamina Internasional RU VI Balongan Refinery. The results of the study showed that the larger the diameter of the pipe to the elbow, the higher the Reynolds number that occurs. Based on the calculation results, the Reynolds number value was obtained >2000. This indicates the occurrence of transient flow when the fluid flows out of the elbow and increases its speed. Based on the analysis with the help of CFD software, the distribution of flow velocity after the elbow exit bend at a diameter of 16” is more even than the flow at the elbow diameters of 12” and 14”. This is likely due to the difference in flow velocity at the elbow exit at a diameter of 16” being smaller than at diameters of 12” and 14”.
