Abstract

Impeller berperan dalam mengubah energi kinetik fluida menjadi energi potensial. Closed impeller, semi open impeller, open impeller memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda dalam menangani fluida kerja. Viskositas fluida dapat mempengaruhi performa kerja pompa. Closed impeller lebih mampu dalam melayani fluida air dibandingkan impeller lainnya, namun closed impeller akan mengalami penurunan performa ketika melayani fluida viskositas tinggi. Modifikasi closed impeller dapat menjadi solusi untuk mengatasi penurunan performa pompa sentrifugal. Semi open impeller merupakan jenis impeller yang lebih mampu menangani fluida dengan viskositas tinggi dibandingkan closed impeller. Jumlah sudu pada impeller dapat mempengaruhi kinerja pompa. Penelitian tentang pengaruh jenis impeller dalam melayani fluida kerja dengan viskositas yang berbeda telah banyak dilakukan, namun terbatas pada penelitian secara numerik. Oleh karena itu, dilakukan penelitian tugas akhir dengan judul “Studi Eksperimen Closed Impeller menjadi Semi Open Impeller Dengan Variasi Jumlah Sudu”. Dalam penelitian ini dibuat sistem instalasi pengujian performa pompa. Modifikasi impeller dimanufaktur menggunakan 3D printing dengan bahan polylactic acids (PLA). Pada penelitian ini dihasilkan closed impeller memiliki Head 14,7 m pada kapasitas 78,5 lpm lebih mampu melayani fluida air dibandingkan impeller lainnya. Hal tersebut dikarenakan closed impeller mampu mengarahkan fluida air dengan lebih bagus dibandingkan impeller lainnya. Namun ketika melayani fluida molase, closed impeller mengalami penurunan performa dikarenakan gaya gesek yang besar antara fluida molase dan permukaan impeller yang terdapat shroud. semi open impeller 5 sudu memiliki performa paling bagus ketika melayani fluida molase dibandingkan impeller lainnya dengan Head 11,52 m pada kapasitas 74,5 m.

The impeller plays a role in converting the kinetic energy of the fluid into potential energy. Closed impeller, semi-open impeller, open impeller have different characteristics in handling working fluid. The viscosity of the fluid can affect the performance of the pump. Closed impeller is more capable in serving water fluid than other impellers, but closed impeller will experience a decrease in performance when serving high viscosity fluid. Modification of the closed impeller can be a solution to overcome the decline in centrifugal pump performance. Semi open impeller is a type of impeller that is more capable of handling high viscosity fluid than closed impeller. The number of blades on the impeller can affect pump performance. Research on the effect of impeller type in serving working fluids with different viscosities has been carried out, but is limited to numerical research. Therefore, a final project research was conducted with the title ‘Experimental Study of Closed Impeller to Semi Open Impeller with Variation in Number of Blades’. In this research, a pump performance testing installation system was made. The impeller modification is manufactured using 3D printing with polylactic acids (PLA) material. In this study, the closed impeller with a head of 14.7 m at a capacity of 78.5 lpm is more capable of serving water fluid than other impellers. This is because the closed impeller is able to direct water fluid better than other impellers. However, when serving molasses fluid, the closed impeller has decreased performance due to the large friction force between the molasses fluid and the surface of the impeller which has a shroud. 5-bladed semi-open impeller has the best performance when serving molasses fluid compared to other impellers with a Head of 11.52 m at a capacity of 74.5 lpm.
