Abstract

Calculation of excavation volume is generally a major and complex problem for project in an industry. Accuracy in volume calculations can have an influence on the size of the project budget that will be submitted to the project provider. To plan a mine, one of the most important aspects is calculating the excavation volume because it is used as a reference for achieving production targets both in terms of technical success and profit. The methods that will be used in calculating the excavation volume are borrow pit and surface to surface. To overcome this problem, a method or technique is needed to calculate the excavation volume that can provide accurate calculation results. In this case, volume calculations were optimized by combining volume calculations using the borrow pit and surface to surface methods, as well as analyzing the accuracy of excavation volume calculations based on tolerances from ASTM (American Society for Testing and Material). Based on the results of the ASTM tolerance test, data with the smallest percentage value was obtained is 1.90% from the borrow pit method with a grid interval of 10 meters which had a volume difference with the forecase study of 18,966 tonnes, and the smallest percentage value was 0.01% from the surface to surface method which had a volume difference with the forecast study of 77.09 tons. Therefore, to produce optimal volume calculations requires a map with a scale of 1:2500 with a contour interval of 1 meter and a grid interval of 15 meters.
