Abstract

============================================================
Additive manufacturing is a technology that enables the creation of three-dimensional objects from CAD (Computer Aided Design) models or digital 3D models by adding material layer by layer under computer control. The use of additive manufacturing fused filament fabrication can be combined with the casting method to obtain lattices structure with metal material. This process will form a controlled truncated octahedron geometry from the 3D printing process and continue with the investment casting process. The results of the 3D printing will be inserted into the slurry making it a mold and then the 3D printing results are melted and replaced with molten aluminum 6061 which is inserted into the investment casting mold. The research conducted will form 3 variations of strut diameter size from truncated octahedron geometry. The results of the additivie manufacturing assisted investment casting process will be studied in physical and mechanical properties, namely visual observation, dimensional testing, density testing, porosity testing, compression testing, stereo microscopy testing, and Vickers hardness testing. This study was conducted to determine the process of making lattices structure with 3D printing application fused filament fabrication assisted investment casting, how the effect of strut diameter size used on the physical properties of lattices structure produced from fused filament fabrication (FFF) assisted investment casting process, and how the effect of strut diameter size used on the mechanical properties of lattices structure produced from fused filament fabrication (FFF) assisted investment casting process. This study evaluates the effect of strut diameter size (4.6, 4.8, and 5.0 mm) on the physical and mechanical properties of lattices structure produced from fused filament fabrication (FFF) assisted investment casting process. The results showed that the 5.0 mm strut diameter had the highest percentage of square shape geometry (84.72%), the highest compression strength (17.7 MPa), and the largest energy absorption (4.64 MJ/m³). However, the 4.6 mm strut diameter showed the best density (2.67 g/cm³) and the highest cavity porosity (78.13%). Vickers hardness testing showed that the 4.8 mm strut diameter had the highest hardness in the columnar zone (53.1 HV5) and equiaxed zone (55.1 HV5), while the 5.0 mm strut diameter had the highest hardness in the chill zone (49.43 HV5).
