Abstract

Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is concrete characterized by high flowability and high compressive strength. One of the keys to UHPC is high packing density. The thing that affects the packing density is the aggregate size distribution. In previous research, there was the use of coarse aggregate as filler material in UHPC. However, the study still used the main components of UHPC such as silica sand and silica fume. Therefore, in this study, UHPC experiments were conducted using coarse aggregate and lumajang sand as fine aggregate, as well as the use of fly ash. This research is based on ASTM C1856-17. This study determines the effect of aggregate gradation on flowability (ASTM C1437-07) and compressive strength (ASTM C1856-17) of UHPC using packing density method. The coarse aggregate used is gravel with a maximum size of 9.5 mm and the fine aggregate is lumajang sand. There are 9 variations of UHPC with different aggregate volume ratios. The test specimens used were 70x150 mm cylinders. Compressive strength tests were conducted at 7 and 28 days using 3 specimens for each grade. Packing density values showed a decrease as the coarse aggregate ratio increased. The flowability test gave values in the range of 120-220 mm. Compressive strength test results at the age of 7 days gave a compressive strength value of 30-62 MPa. While the highest compressive strength test result at the age of 28 days was 73.79 MPa at a Ca/S ratio of 0.25 and the lowest was 32.29 at a Ca/S ratio of 0.75. Thus, it can be seen that the relationship between packing density and compressive strength is in line. The results showed that the optimum value of coarse aggregate utilization is Ca/S ratio=0.50 with Vb/Va=1.0. However, the compressive strength test results at the age of 28 days did not reach the ASTM C1856-17 standard value of >120 MPa. This is due to the use of coarse aggregate, which causes the density to decrease, thus reducing the compressive strength. Therefore, the main component of UHPC must be used to increase the packing density, which can then increase the compressive strength.
