Abstract

The architectural response to the issue of rising sea levels aims to empower impoverished coastal communities who face the dual challenges of poverty and the threat of their living spaces being submerged. Architecture seeks to enable these communities to become resilient in confronting this issue. Grounded in empathic and contextual design, with the goal of architectural empowerment, this design project follows a concept-based framework with a big idea of a floating industrial building. The design employs the method of critical regionalism and a response to site approach to explore local materials and tectonics, specifically bamboo. The bamboo architecture concept is explored to create spaces that meet community needs and can be self-constructed by the poor people of coastal area.
