Abstract

This final project designs an innovative and sustainable solution to optimize ecotourism in the wetlands of Bakut Island, a proboscis monkey habitat. A biomimicry approach is applied, adopting the principles of nature to produce a harmonious solution. The design focuses on three main aspects: camouflage architecture, biomimicry of proboscis monkey territory, and biomimicry of rambai tree fruit.
The conceptual framework is designed based on the principles of biomimicry, integrating nature's intelligence with architectural innovation. This holistic approach understands and respects the dynamics of the Bakut Island ecosystem. The typology of the main building emphasizes the conservation function, taking into account the habitat and protection needs of the proboscis monkeys. The selection and placement of buildings is based on in-depth research into the behavior and movement patterns of proboscis monkeys. This design not only accommodates their needs, but also minimizes disruption to their natural environment and adds economic value to the surrounding area.
One of the key innovations is the incorporation of the footbridge concept as a tourist area and the main enclosure. The footbridge allows visitors to enjoy the view without damaging the ecosystem, while providing an eco-friendly solution to improve connectivity between areas. The application of renewable technology is key, with the use of renewable energy sources and eco-friendly practices as an integral part of the design. This final project aims to create a dignified environment for proboscis monkeys and the ecosystem of Bakut Island, and facilitate sustainable ecotourism activities.
