Abstract

Microstrip Patch Antenna is one of the breakthroughs in technology that allows antennas to have a compact size. This research aims to develop a UWB antenna through FDTD simulation to obtain the operational parameters of the antenna that meet its specifications, including an S11 parameter value below -10 dB and a VSWR value below 2. The antenna is then fabricated using FR-4 substrate with copper conductors. The feedline CPW dimensions are determined by calculating the characteristic impedance (Z0) and the length of the patch to be used, resulting in a CPW feedline with a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω. The design employs an Elliptical Patch with three variations of ground shapes: Rectangular, Following Patch, and Half Circular. The dimensions are as follows: major radius (A) = 19.5 mm, minor radius = 15.5 mm, feedline width (Wf) = 2 mm, and gap distance (g) = 0.32 mm. The simulation results of the three antennas show that design 3 with a Half Circular Ground has the widest bandwidth with a working width of 16.14 GHz, followed by design 1 with a rectangular ground which has five bandwidths, the widest being 2.97 GHz, and design 2 with eight bandwidths, the widest being 2.91 GHz.
