Abstract
Health facilities across Indonesia are not well distributed especially on the lesser Islands of Indonesia, notably the East Nusa Tenggara. The condition is further worsened by the lack of available medical practitioners and access to over-the-counter medicines and common basic vaccines. The deployment of several clinic-sized hospital vessels to these areas will be beneficial to the residents of the islands where medical practitioners have the mobility to cover several islands in need with adequate facilities. The catamaran configuration is chosen due to the offered stability, more deck space, and low draft which allows access to shallow waters which are common in these islands. The design is specialized for general surgical operations around the island of Sumba, Raijua, and Sawu with an approach through the requirements of hospital layout placement and sizes especially for the sterile environment of surgical procedures. The designed vessel is approximately 430 tonnes has an overall length of 60.75 metres, total beam of 22 metres, demi-hull breadth of 4 metres, draught of 1.8 metres, and the capacity to travel approximately 262.5 kilometres on 30 knots. It has 2 operating rooms and can accommodate around 47 patients including 14 inpatients with several medical facilities for general diagnostics, consultations, and pharmacy service. The initial estimated price of the vessel is 7.3 million US dollars.
