Abstract

In order to better understand the effects of hybrid systems on energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and operating costs, this research examines their use in Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes at Terminal Petikemas The growing worldwide energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from industrial operations are reasons why the study highlights the need of energy efficiency in reducing environmental degradation and climate change. For both
traditional and hybrid RTG cranes, information was gathered about fuel consumption, emission variables, and operating costs. The study determined CO2, CH4, and N2O emissions using techniques from the Ministry of Environment and the IPCC, and it assessed the cost-effectiveness of hybrid systems using the Marginal Abatement Cost Curve (MACC). Research reveals that hybrid RTG cranes cut greenhouse gas emissions significantly: CO2 emissions dropped by 51% from 4923.028 tonnes to 2544.794 tonnes annually, CH4 emissions down by 51% from 0.259 tonnes to 0.134 tonnes, and N2O emissions dropped by 90% from 0.259 tonnes to 0.000367 tonnes. The hybrid system also shows significant cost benefits, lowering yearly fuel consumption and operating expenses. According to the study's findings, using hybrid RTG cranes can assist more environmentally and economically friendly port operations. Future study should look into advanced emission reduction technologies like carbon capture and storage, optimise hybrid system designs, and run simulations to obtain more precise data. This study
highlights how hybrid technology may improve economic efficiency while lessening the negative environmental effects of port operations.
