Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan pembuatan material alternatif berupa pelet dari serat nanas dan termoplastik Polypropylene dengan terdapat variasi komposisi dan perlakuan alkali. Pelet tersebut dibuat menggunakan mesin ekstruder dengan temperature yang dibuat konstan sebesar 230oC. Setelah itu, pelet diuji menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) untuk diketahui persentase void-nya sebelum dimasukkan ke mesin Injection molding dengan setting parameter yang telah ditentukan. Variasi spesimen yang dibuat pada penelitian ini adalah spesimen A (90% PP, 5% Serat Nanas tanpa perlakuan, dan 5% MAPP), spesimen B (85% PP, 10% Serat Nanas tanpa perlakuan, dan 5% MAPP), spesimen C (90% PP, 5% Serat Nanas dengan perlakuan, dan 5% MAPP), dan spesimen D (90% PP, 5% Serat Nanas dengan perlakuan, dan 5% MAPP). Spesimen yang telah dibuat, diuji menggunakan standar ASTM D955-00 untuk diketahui nilai shrinkage-nya. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh komposisi dan perlakukan alkali (NaOH) pada biokomposit terhadap nilai shrinkage melalui metode analisis statistik berupa ANOVA dan analisis regresi.
Hasil dari penelitian ini, menunjukkan bahwa komposisi biokomposit dan perlakuan alkali memiliki pengaruh terhadap persentase void hasil proses ekstrusi. Pengaruh tersebut adalah semakin banyak persentase serat yang terkandung dalam campuran biokomposit, semakin meningkatkan persentase void pada pelet. Selain itu, pelet yang mengandung serat nanas dengan perlakuan alkali memiliki jumlah persentase area void lebih besar. Komposisi biokomposit dan perlakuan alkali memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap nilai shrinkage yang diukur searah dengan aliran. Nilai shrinkage bikomposit yang tegak lurus dengan aliran hanya faktor perlakuan alkali yang memiliki pengaruh signifikan, sedangkan faktor komposisi tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap nilai shrinkage-nya. Nilai rerata shrinkage biokomposit A, B, C, dan D diukur searah dengan aliran adalah 1.650%, 1.167%, 1.866%, dan 1.684%. Sementara nilai rerata shrinkage biokomposit A, B, C, dan D diukur tegak lurus dengan aliran adalah 2.073%, 1.942%, 2.217%, dan 2.096%.

In this study, an alternative material was made in the form of pellets from pineapple fiber and Polypropylene thermoplastic with variations in composition and alkali treatment. The pellets were made using an extruder machine with a constant temperature of 230oC. After that, the pellets were tested using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to determine the percentage of voids before being inserted into the Injection molding machine with predetermined parameter settings. The specimen variations made in this study are specimen A (90% PP, 5% Pineapple Fiber without treatment, and 5% MAPP), specimen B (85% PP, 10% Pineapple Fiber without treatment, and 5% MAPP), specimen C (90% PP, 5% Pineapple Fiber with treatment, and 5% MAPP), and specimen D (90% PP, 5% Pineapple Fiber with treatment, and 5% MAPP). The specimens that have been made are tested using the ASTM D955-00 standard to determine the shrinkage value. This study was conducted to determine the effect of composition and alkali treatment (NaOH) on biocomposites on shrinkage value through statistical analysis methods such as ANOVA and regression analysis.
The results of this study show that biocomposite composition and alkali treatment have an influence on the percentage of voids resulting from the extrusion process. The effect is that the higher the percentage of fiber contained in the biocomposite mixture, the higher the percentage of voids in the pellets. In addition, pellets containing pineapple fibers with alkali treatment have a larger percentage of void area. Biocomposite composition and alkali treatment had a significant influence on the shrinkage value measured in the direction of flow. The shrinkage value of bicomposites perpendicular to the flow is only the alkali treatment factor that has a significant effect, while the composition factor has no significant effect on the shrinkage value. The mean shrinkage values of biocomposites A, B, C, and D measured in the direction of flow are 1.650%, 1.167%, 1.866%, and 1.684%. While the mean shrinkage values of biocomposites A, B, C, and D measured perpendicular to the flow are 2.073%, 1.942%, 2.217%, and 2.096%, respectively.
