Abstract

============================================================
The suspension system consists of springs and dampers that can provide vehicle and rider safety. In commercial truck vehicles, safety and longevity from the use of suspension are the main thing, including the Tronton Truck owned by PT Semen Indonesia Logistik. Various cases of suspension damage are due to overload, so the available life of the suspension can be said to be small. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the existing suspension design according to the load and profile of the road being passed. The road profile used is an impulse in the form of a bump which has a height of 0.1 m and a width of 0.25 with a speed of 25 km/h. Optimization is carried out by changing the design of the existing suspension design, namely the 125 mm chamber with the addition of 10, 20, 30, and 40 mm chamber heights to 135, 145, 155, and 165 mm in the suspension.
In this final project research, simulations were carried out using ANSYS software. Simulations were carried out on models that were previously designed using Solidworks software. The simulation was carried out using static structural, fatigue tools, and modal analysis. Before the simulation, a material element test is carried out first and the results of the test are used to determine the type of material and its mechanical properties. Then, simulations were also carried out using MATLAB simulink software to determine the maximum deflection of the suspension.
Based on the simulations that have been carried out, it is found that the suspension design that has a safe strength value to withstand the load of the truck is a suspension with an additional chamber height of 20, 30, and 40 mm with a safety factor value>2. In addition, the higher the increase in the height of the chamber, the more effective the suspension will be in increasing its life resistance to cyclic loads that occur continuously with truck overloads. In this study, it was found that the highest increase in life was owned by the suspension with an increase in height of 40 mm, which had an increase in available life of 96×1010 hours from the original suspension at the 50% amplitude point. In the MATLAB simulation, based on the variations studied, both the original suspension and the addition of 10, 20, 30, and 40 mm chamber heights are safe distances and no collisions occur. Therefore, based on the consideration of suspension strength in resisting tension, available life and suspension impact factor with additional chamber heights of 20, 30 and 40 mm, it is recommended to PT Semen Indonesia Logistik.
