Abstract

Clay is one of the main components of cement, obtained through mining. This mining activity can cause land degradation, such as low soil pH. Land reclamation can be carried out using acid-tolerant plants, soil engineering, and mycorrhizal application. This study aims to determine the effects of various planting media engineering on the growth of Jatropha curcas and to identify the optimal land engineering for the growth of Jatropha curcas. The treatments involved variations of planting media combinations, including garden soil, exclay mining soil, and mycorrhiza. Each variation of planting media was replicated four times and observed for 12 weeks (60 days after planting). The plant growth measurements included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, plant biomass, shoot and root ratio, transpiration rate, net assimilation rate, and mycorrhizal infection. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, followed by the Post Hoc Tukey test for further analysis. The results showed that the higher the concentration of exclay mining soil, the lower the growth rate of Jatropha curcas. The best growth of Jatropha curcas was observed in the planting media variation of 50% exclay mining soil + 50% garden soil + mycorrhiza. The mycorrhizal infection rate was inversely proportional to the concentration of exclay minning soil. The higher the concentration of exclay mining soil, the lower the mycorrhizal infection rate in Jatropha curcas.
