Abstract

The urgency of practicing a sustainable and responsible development has sparked discussions among international organizations and governments. The indirect pressure drives Indonesia’s industrial practitioners as well as policymakers to finally shift the focus towards remanufacturing practices. However, it has been a major roadblock when policymakers do not understand the current condition and what kind of policy suits the condition in Indonesia. An initial research has been assembled to study the remanufacturing industries in Indonesia further. As a part of a bigger research focusing on drafting policis and guideline, this research aims to classify remanufacturing business process and structure the drivers and barriers of remanufacturing practices by a CIMOSA framework, adapted to a more circular business model. To conduct a systematic approach of discussions, a method of in-depth interview and ranking sytem toward factors compiled and the business model construction is used. The interviews conducted are based on the company 7 companies given back the form in a specified time. The business model accommodates a visualization of the companies business process and their understanding of their remanufacturing industry to later be classified. After conducting an analysis based on crucial points in the sustainability of the remanufacturing industry, four main remanufacturing business models in Indonesia were found, which are Original Equipment Re/Manufacturer, Authorized Remanufacturer, Semi-Authorized Remanufacturer, and Independent Remanufacturer are found as the main business model in remanufacturing industries in Indonesia along with the drivers and barriers for each company. Different definitions between each model claimed by companies are known due to further discussion in interviews, and has strengthen the background of why this research must be conducted. However, since this research is the initial step of a wider research, a further research is suggested to be done to enhance a deeper understanding and represent more thorough definition using more relevant tools.
