Abstract

The Folklore Restaurant embodies a culinary tourism business in Denpasar city. Faced with the challenge of expanding its market segment to international tourists, especially with the increasing number of foreign tourist arrivals, the restaurant needs to have added value as an attraction for these visitors. This design focuses on applying a multisensory and contextual approach to the interior design of The Folklore Restaurant to enhance the dining experience, particularly for international tourists, as part of market expansion efforts. The design process uses the design thinking method, which includes five stages: empathy, define, ideate, prototyping, and testing. The design development shows that the application of multisensory elements can be achieved through the use of local materials, design components that provide auditory experiences, furniture that encourages movement interaction with users, and the contextual application of Balinese elements such as the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, the Megibung dining culture, the legend of the kokokan heron, and the Sangadatu philosophy. All design components provide a visual experience to customers. Design validation results show that applying multisensory in interior design received positive responses from respondents. This development is expected to enhance branding and expand the market for The Folklore Restaurant.
