Abstract

From several New and Renewable Energy (EBT) programs designed by PT PLN, one of the programs is the application of Co-firing in existing coal-fired steam power plants (PLTU). Co-firing is the addition of biomass as a partial replacement fuel into a coal-fired PLTU boiler. Co-firing is used as one of the green boosters in the program to accelerate the use of renewable energy. In order to support the program, PLTU PT X plans to replace primary fuel from coal to 100% biomass. This study will discuss the effect of biomass cofiring on combustion in pulverized coal type boiler PLTU PT X. Numerical analysis was carried out on Pulverized Coal (PC) Boiler PLTU PT X using eight (8) variations namely 100% coal, cofiring biomass with a percentage of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% and 100% Biomass. So as to determine the distribution of temperature, speed and areas experiencing turbulence in the boiler, modeling is carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) using ANSYS FLUENT software. The results of this study show that the condition of 100% coal has the highest temperature contour distribution and then decreases as the percentage of sawdust co-firing increases.
