Abstract

Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia, located in East Java Province. This status cannot be separated from the population in the city of Surabaya which continues to increase. This also has an impact on the provision of adequate public facilities by the Surabaya City Government to achieve the welfare of the population. Rusunawa is one of the programs of the Surabaya City Government to improve welfare, especially for people with low incomes (MBR). In flats there is a septic tank that collects water used for residential use, but the effluent value from the septic tank still exceeds the quality standard. So it is very dangerous if it is used by flat managers for watering plants. The alternative offered to overcome this problem is to use wastewater treatment technology in the form of a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) or Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR). The MBBR processing unit has the advantage of reducing nitrogen content. Meanwhile, the use of ABR technology combined with an ABF unit only requires a small amount of land, and can handle the IPAL problem in Rusunawa Gunung Anyar, where the IPAL effluent is still above quality standards. Obtained processing results using grease traps, ABR, ABF, multi media filters, and disinfection below quality standards, with values of TSS = 1.10 mg/L, BOD = 3.07, COD = 4.08 mg/L, and ammonia = 1.54 mg/L. So that the processed water can be used for land water activities.
