Abstract
Keadaan optimum tersebut berhasil menurunkan nilai beberapa parameter kualitas air, seperti kekeruhan 4,44 NTU, pH 7,92, TDS 68,00 mg/L, DHL 135,30 μS/cm, CO2 5,87 mg/L, HCO3- 80,52 mg/L, Cl- 4,30 mg/L, Ca2+ 17,07 mg/L, CaCO3 55,61 mg/L, SO42- 4,87 mg/L, Mn 0,01 mg/L, dan zat organik 1,21 mg/L. Hasil tersebut memenuhi standar Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor 492 tahun 2010 tentang standar air minum

River water used as a source of drinking water supply is often contaminated by various dangerous substances, thereby reducing the quality of drinking water. Therefore, a drinking water treatment process is needed that can eliminate harmful substances in it and maintain the quality of drinking water. The drinking water treatment process consists of various processes, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration. The use of chemicals in the coagulation process is known to cause various health problems in humans and damage the environmental ecosystem, so it is necessary to look for alternatives to these chemicals. This research aims to make banana stem biomass as an alternative biocoagulant in the water treatment process. Banana stem biomass was successfully made through a drying process for one week and drying in an oven at 60 oC for 6 hours. FTIR characterization results confirm that this biomass contains hydroxyl (O-H), hydrocarbon (C-H), carboxyl (COO- double bond), carboxylate (-COOH), amine (C-N), and C-O groups. This research also applies banana stem biomass as a biocoagulant in the Cipaku River water treatment process. Evaluation of variations in biocoagulant dose and settling time showed that the optimum dose and settling time were 5 mg/L and 90 minutes, respectively. This optimum condition succeeded in reducing the values of several water quality parameters, such as turbidity 4.44 NTU, pH 7.92, TDS 68.00 mg/L, DHL 135.30 μS/cm, CO2 5.87 mg/L, HCO3- 80.52 mg/L, Cl- 4.30 mg/L, Ca2+ 17.07 mg/L, CaCO3 55.61 mg/L, SO42- 4.87 mg/L, Mn 0.01 mg/L, and substances organic 1.21 mg/L. These results meet the standards of the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Health Regulation Number 492 of 2010 concerning drinking water standards.
