Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the quality of welding results on the Top Deck Support Frame using two different welding methods, namely Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), through a series of Non-Destructive Tests (NDT). Testing is carried out to identify potential internal and external defects that may appear during the welding process, such as porosity, undercuts, and incomplete fusion. This welding process is tested using the Visual Test (VT), Magnetic Particle Test (MT), and Ultrasonic Test (UT) methods to detect imperfections in the welded structure. In addition, factors such as heat distribution, material deformation, and joint resistance are also analyzed to understand the effect of welding parameters on joint quality. The test results show that choosing the right welding method and optimal parameter settings have a significant effect on minimizing welding defects and increasing structural reliability. This study makes a significant contribution to improving welding procedures and quality control at PT. PAL Indonesia, especially in the manufacturing process in the maritime industry sector. Recommendations for improvement are provided to optimize the use of NDT in future welding quality inspections.
