Abstract

Transmission system is a very important part of a machine. Transmission system functions to transmit energy from one shaft to another. Therefore, to add equipment to the Mechanical Design laboratory at DTMI, a belt and pulley transmission system design was made which can be used as a supporting tool for students' practicum later. In this context, a test of the slip percentage of the v-belt transmission system was carried out based on its level of slackness and also the problems arising from this transmission system. The purpose of this study was to measure the extent to which the system's slip percentage changes with variations in belt slackness, from too tight to too loose. The results of this test will provide valuable insight into how proper belt slack can affect the overall performance of the system. Starting with designing a v-belt transmission system test tool using Solidworks 2017, then selecting components including electric motors, generators, v-belts and pulleys then assembling all components. Furthermore, a slip percentage test was carried out with various variations in v-belt slackness and then calculating the slip percentage from each test. Furthermore, data analysis and conclusions were made regarding the results of the slip percentage produced. The results of the belt and pulley transmission system test equipment have been successfully realized by using a type A v-belt. The percentage of slippage occurs more when the transmission system is in a 2% slack condition with a load of 6 kg, where it can be concluded that the greater the percentage of slack and load given, the greater the percentage of slippage that will occur
