Abstract

A breakwater is a coastal structure used to dampen incoming waves towards the shore. The function of the protective layer on a breakwater is to absorb incoming waves and transmit them as smaller waves, thus preventing any significant impact on the area behind it. This study aims to test the stability of protective layer units on a breakwater. The research employed a physical model test method in the laboratory with two wave period variations (1.15 s and 1.5 s), four wave height variations (10.1 m, 9.2 m, 7.4 m, and 6.4 m), and four protective layer unit variations (Hexaloc, Tetrapod, BPPT-Lock, and Rubble Mound). Stability analysis showed the highest damage percentages for Hexaloc, Tetrapod, BPPT-Lock, and Batu Pecah in sequence: 11.10%, 10.57%, 0.16%, and 2.33%. A multiple linear regression model was also derived to provide a predictive value for the stability number, which is: NS=1,732+0,051(KD)+28,938(H/(gT^2))
