Abstract

===============================================================================================================================
Indonesia is the sixth-largest producer of bauxite in the world, with recorded bauxite resources amounting to 828.289.086 tons of ore. Currently, only about 10% of the red mud generated annually is recycled. More than 150 megatons of red mud are stored in landfills and oceans each year. Red mud has garnered attention due to its high heavy metal content and significant economic value. This study aims to determine the ability of Tradescantia pallida and Philodendron burle-marxii plants to perform phytomining of Chromium and Vanadium in red mud and to evaluate the effect of adding cow dung manure and Bacillus stercorisbacteria on the phytomining ability of Tradescantia pallida and Philodendron burle-marxii. The research consists of preliminary research and main research. The preliminary research includes plant screening, selection of the best stimulants, and ICP-OES testing for test plants without available literature on heavy metal accumulation. The main research was conducted over 28 da ys with a sampling period of 5 times. Supporting parameters measured in the main research include pH, soil moisture, electrical conductivity, temperature, plant morphology, total chlorophyll, as well as wet and dry weight. The TPC test was conducted twice, on day 0 and day 28, to observe the development of the added bacterial colonies. This study demonstrates that the treatment involving the addition of bacteria has a highly significant impact on the uptake ability of plants. The highest Cr uptake with the addition of bacteria reached 82.2 mg/kg by the plant Tradescantia pallida, whereas the highest Cr uptake without bacterial addition was only 53.3 mg/kg by the same plant. A similar result was observed for the metal V, with the highest uptake under bacterial treatment reaching 63.8 mg/kg, compared to 54.6 mg/kg without bacterial addition by Tradescantia pallida. However, the addition of bacteria did not positively influence supporting parameters such as electrical conductivity and pH . The role of cow manure as a stimulant appeared more dominant than that of bacteria in affecting these parameters.
