Abstract

The construction of the Lamongan North Ring Road, which was built as an alternative effort to alleviate congestion on the Lamongan - Babat section of the national road. The pavement structure is on soft to medium silt soil at a depth of up to 26 meters so that it requires a method of soil improvement or selection of the right foundation structure in order to provide a pavement service life that can last a long time considering that the road route is a busy route connecting Surabaya City with Tuban City. This study aims to compare the handling of subgrade soil in the form of soil improvement using Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) with surcharge, strengthening the structure with slab on pile or piled slab and the use of foam mortar embankment as a substitute for preferred embankment on soft soil. Model combinations included variation of PVD length (19.5 m; 13 m and 6.5 m), variation of combination of foam mortar and surcharge and variation of slab pile diameter (40 cm, 50 cm and 60 cm). The results of the Plaxis2D analysis showed that the longer the PVD installed in the compressible soil, the greater the settlement produced with a smaller time. On the other hand, the foam mortar showed that the higher the mortar pile, the smaller the settlement. The larger the pile diameter is not followed by a reduction in settlement.
