Abstract

The Dean Building A of the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) is a central hub for student activities at the university. The construction of this building is located in a high seismic zone. The building has four floors, the foundation uses Konstruksi Sarang Laba-Laba (KSLL). The soil type at this site is predominantly soft silty soil, with the groundwater table located at a depth of -1.0 meters from the ground surface. The soil, which contains organic matter and exhibits plastic properties, poses a high potential for secondary settlement. The considerations in analyzing the existing KSLL foundation include addressing settlement issues. Therefore, a strong foundation is required to support the structural load and withstand seismic forces. Additionally, an alternative foundation design needs to be planned to prevent differential settlement, which could otherwise damage the structure above. In this thesis, an analysis of the existing KSLL foundation design is conducted, along with alternative designs for raft foundations and pile foundations, taking into account the bearing capacity and settlement of the existing soil. The proposed raft foundation consists of a 1-meter-thick slab with a total area of 1440 m^2, along with stiffening beams measuring 0.7 meters in width and 1.5 meters in thickness. Meanwhile, the pile foundation is designed using D60 pile with a depth of 6 meters. Based on the planning and analytical calculations in this final project, the existing KSLL foundation has a bearing capacity of 648.84 kN/m^2 and a settlement of 0.375 m. In the alternative design analysis of the raft and pile foundations, the bearing capacity is sufficient to accommodate the existing load. Additionally, the settlement of the raft and pile foundations meets the tolerance limits and poses no risk of differential settlement. The most cost-effective foundation design in terms of material expenses is the existing KSLL foundation, with a total material cost of IDR 1,561,893,583.
