Abstract

The Nickel Smelter Plan in South Sulawesi is a nickel mining company that requires high reliability of the electrical system in improving its mining operations. In the electrical system, this system often experiences disturbances, especially in the smelter load, which can cause blackouts in the 33 KV system. With this disturbance, the continuity of the power supply is disrupted, so that an evaluation of the protection coordination is needed to maintain the reliability and selectivity of the electrical system. Based on cases in the field, the performance of the company's protection system still cannot be said to be a reliable protection system. This is because when there is a disturbance in the electrical system on the load side, the system will experience a blackout. This case is caused by the opening sequence of the circuit breaker in the system not being in accordance with the relay causing the CB on the load side not to trip so that the upper CB opens first, allowing a blackout to occur. In this final assignment, an analysis of the performance of the existing coordination protection system of phase fault overcurrent relays and ground fault overcurrent relays was carried out. This analysis was carried out to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the coordination of the protection system. Furthermore, an evaluation was carried out to determine the correct tripping sequence of the protection relay so that a blackout would not occur. After the evaluation, the simulation results were obtained from this study. The result of this simulation is the resetting of each phase fault current relay and ground fault current relay from the evaluation of the existing system. The results of this
evaluation are expected to be a consideration for the Nickel Smelter Plan in South Sulawesi in overcoming the problem of electrical system protection on the smelter load.
