Abstract

The development of modern industry and technology over time has had a significant impact on important aspects of human life. One important aspect is fluid distribution. Be it oil, water, or other fluids. One of the devices used to move is a centrifugal pump. Centrifugal pumps in operation are not protected from losses. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of adding slots to the impeller blades accompanied by increasing the number of impeller blades. Variations in this research are the addition of slots at positions 30% and 40% of the leading edge and respectively the discharge is 0.00001 kg/s, 0.3846 kg/s, 1 kg/s, 3 kg/s.
The stages in this research are specifically pre-, namely creating geometry in SOLIDWORK 2023 software, then creating meshing and setting boundary conditions using FLUENT 2021 R2. The aspects determined at this stage are check, scale, smooth/swap grid, grid, solver, viscous, materials, unit boundary conditions, soultions, initialization, residual monitoring, and iterate. This simulation will later produce data in the form of head, pressure and velocity contours, and also a velocity vector.
The simulation results show that slot placement has an influence on pump performance. The addition of this slot causes an increase in flow momentum which allows fluid to flow from the lower side to the upper side of the impeller blade. The greatest efficiency of the centrifugal pump with the addition of slots was obtained by varying the slot placement by 30%, amounting to 77.68%. The highest head was obtained from a 30% slot placement variation of 15.38 m.
