Abstract

Behavior setting sebagai sebuah teori menjelaskan tentang fungsi lingkungan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan dari aktivitas yang ditentukan pada suatu ruang dengan pengaturan tertentu yang efisien. Behavior setting dapat dilihat dengan pendekatan identitas dan komunitas dalam psikologi lingkungan untuk menciptakan lingkungan dengan sense of community yang mendorong pelestarian budaya. Teori ini diterapkan pada isu budaya tradisional yang hampir punah akibat modernisasi. Salah satu komunitas tradisional yang terancam punah adalah suku Sawang di provinsi Bangka Belitung, Indonesia. Komunitas ini telah mempertahankan gaya hidup nomaden di laut selama berabad-abad, namun kini jumlahnya menurun secara signifikan akibat relokasi oleh pemerintah dan stigmatisasi oleh masyarakat lokal lain. Memori akan pola perilaku tradisional mereka perlu diabadikan, salah satu caranya adalah melalui reinterpretasi dengan arsitektur sebagai wadah atau milieu. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian pra-rancangan adalah tinjauan pustaka serta analisis kualitatif terhadap preseden dan kondisi lahan untuk menemukan data pola aktivitas, identitas budaya, dan konteks sosial. Tujuan yang ingin dicapai adalah memahami bagaimana pola perilaku suatu komunitas sebagai suatu identitas dapat membentuk sebuah milieu. Visi dari desain ini adalah arsitektur yang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai struktur tetapi juga sebagai wadah pelestarian budaya dan kohesi sosial.

Behavior setting as a theory explains how an environment function is to cater activities that are specified to certain settings efficiently. Behavior setting basis can be merged with identity and community approach to create an environment with a sense of community that promotes cultural perseverance. This theory can be applied in traditional culture that has gone almost to extinction due to modernization. One of the endangered traditional communities is the Sawang tribe in Bangka Belitung province, Indonesia. This community has been keeping their nomad marine lifestyle at the sea for centuries, however it is now significantly decreasing in number due to relocation by the authorities and stigmatization by other local communities. Memory of their traditional behavior needs to be immortalized through reinterpretation, one of the ways is with architecture as the medium or milieu. The methods used in the pre-design research are literature review and qualitative analysis on precedents and field condition to find data regarding their activity patterns, cultural identity, and social contexts. The outcome aims to understand how behavior patterns as a communal identity can shape a milieu. The vision of the design is architecture that serves not just as a structure but as a vessel for cultural preservation and community cohesion.
