Abstract

The Indonesian government has committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2060 in order to prevent climate change and global warming. However, in 2022 Indonesia is still included in the top 10 most carbon-emitting countries in the world. The role of companies and industry is very important in efforts to reduce carbon emissions, because around 88% of carbon emissions in Indonesia come from the industrial sector. The electricity and gas procurement sector, which utilizes coal energy in the process, is one of the sectors that contributes to generating the largest carbon emissions in Indonesia. The level of efficiency of the company in managing its resources is the key to understanding the extent to which the company is able to minimize costs and maximize the benefits of carbon emission reduction efforts. Therefore, in this study, an efficiency analysis was carried out in managing carbon emissions in new stone industry companies using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, especially the SBM model compared to the SBM model with Undesirable Output. The results of the analysis show that based on the SBM and SBM models with Undesirable Output, the efficiency level of coal companies in Indonesia varies, with 4 out of 24 DMUs (ADMR, BIPI, BYAN, GEMS) having achieved optimal efficiency in generating net profit and managing carbon emissions. The most inefficient DMUs include TOBA, INDY, and TCPI. The results of the Wilcoxon Ranking-Marked test showed that there was a difference in efficiency results between the SBM model and the SBM model with Undesirable Output. Efficiency adjustment efforts for inefficient DMUs include reducing inputs (assets, equity, employees, energy) and undesirable output (carbon emissions), as well as increasing desirable output (net profit).
