Abstract

Boilers are critical components in manufacturing industries as they supply energy required for production processes. at PT. XYZ, two existing steam boiler units with capacities of 6 tons/hour and 7 tons/hour have been in operation for over 27 and 42 years, respectively. As a result, they have experienced significant declines in efficiency and safety performance. To address this, the company plans to replace them with a new boiler unit with a capacity of 10 tons/hour. However, the current boiler selection process has been primarily based on the lowest price criterion, without adequate consideration of technical, efficiency, safety, and environmental aspects. This approach poses potential risks, such as increased operational costs and production disruptions. The findings of this study indicate that the most critical sub-criteria in boiler selection are boiler efficiency at 100% load specific energy weight of 11.83%, initial investment cost weight of 10.84%, and the quality of the boiler’s safety control system weight of 10.13%. Evaluation of four alternative boiler brands Yuanda, Miura, Erensen, and Omnical revealed that the Yuanda Boiler received the highest priority weight of 0,349374, thus recommended as the preferred choice. This was followed by Miura weight of 0,319063, Erensen weight of 0,196042, and Omnical weight of 0,13552. The decision-making model integrating Delphi, DEMATEL, and ANP methods offers an objective, transparent, and comprehensive approach to boiler selection. This approach has generated a comprehensive decision-making framework that enables PT. XYZ management to make well-informed, efficient, and sustainable investment decisions.
