Abstract

The increasing demand for energy has driven offshore oil and gas exploration, including the use of fixed jacket platforms to support exploitation activities in shallow to moderate water depths. However, the phenomenon of scouring, or soil erosion around piles, can threaten the stability of these platforms, especially under strong current conditions. This study aims to analyze the impact of scouring on the local structural integrity of piles on a four-legged platform during storm conditions. The methodology includes a global analysis to assess the overall structural stability and a local analysis focusing on stress distribution in the piles due to variations in maximum scouring depth. The results indicate that variations in scouring depth affect the global strength of the structure, as evidenced by increased unity check values in the member stress check for B02, increased UC in the joint punching shear check for joint number 435, and increased UC values for each pile across the scouring variations. Furthermore, the local strength of the pile structure under maximum scouring depth variation does not exceed the allowable stress. Meanwhile, pile deformation remains within safe limits according to API standards, recorded at 0.47% of the 1% threshold. Soil deformation under the maximum scouring depth variation is also within safe limits according to NAFVAC standards, recorded at 0.812% of the 1% threshold.
