Abstract

This study aims to enhance the scheduling efficiency of an underwater pipeline inspection project through the implementation of the Critical Path Method (CPM) and Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM). The project encompasses several interrelated key activities, including equipment mobilization, geophysical surveys using MBES and SSS, cathodic protection inspections, and underwater debris removal. The analysis using the CPM method reveals that critical activities, such as equipment calibration and inspection processes, significantly influence the overall project duration. However, this approach has limitations, as it assumes fixed activity durations and lacks flexibility in dealing with field uncertainties. As an alternative, the CCPM method is applied with a buffer management approach to anticipate potential delays without extending the project timeline. CCPM also emphasizes optimal resource allocation and the elimination of multitasking to maintain workflow efficiency. A comparative analysis between CPM and CCPM demonstrates that the implementation of CCPM can significantly reduce the project duration from 49 days to 27 days. These findings indicate that CCPM is more adaptive in addressing variability and complexity, and proves to be a more effective method for enhancing the efficiency of underwater pipeline inspection projects.
