Abstract
Air limbah berdasarkan sumbernya terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu air limbah domestik dan non-domestik. Air limbah domestik merupakan air limbah yang berasal dari aktivitas di permukiman, apartemen, dan perkantoran. Sedangkan air limbah non-domestik merupakan air limbah yang berasal dari aktivitas industri, pertanian, peternakan, dan sumber-sumber lain. Limbah cair yang dihasilkan dari kegiatan di Rumah Potong Unggas (RPU) mengandung senyawa organik yang cukup tinggi, sehingga apabila tidak diolah dengan baik maka dapat menyebabkan blooming algae. Zat organik pada air dapat diketahui dengan melakukan pengukuran Permanganate Value (PV), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), dan Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui efisiensi removal biofilter anaerob menggunakan media bioball dan bioring dalam mengolah air limbah Rumah Potong Unggas (RPU).
Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan beberapa tahapan, yaitu tahap persiapan penelitian dan tahap penelitian utama. Tahap persiapan penelitian dilakukan dengan merakit biofilter anaerob, menyiapkan media filter, dan melakukan proses seeding dan aklimatisasi. Penelitian utama dilakukan dengan mengalirkan air limbah ke dalam reaktor menggunakan debit yang berbeda dan dilakukan pengujian parameter dalam rentang waktu 4 jam sekali selama 24 jam. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan running sebanyak dua kali dengan running ke-1 menggunakan media bioball dan running ke-2 menggunakan bioring. Parameter utama yang akan diukur pada penelitian ini ialah Permanganate Value (PV) untuk mengetahui kandungan organik dengan metode titrasi permanganat dan nitrat sebagai indikator proses denitrifikasi menggunakan brucin asetat.
Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa beban organik, beban hidrolik, dan waktu kontak berpengaruh terhadap efisiensi penurunan kandungan organik dan nitrat. Beban organik yang tinggi dapat menyebabkan substrat yang melimpah, sehingga dapat menyebabkan pertumbuhan mikroorganisme lebih cepat. Namun, apabila beban organik terlalu tinggi menyebabkan lapisan dalam biofilm kekurangan substrat karena difusi terhambat. Hasil penelitian biofilter menggunakan limbah cair Rumah Potong Unggas (RPU) bermedia bioball menunjukkan efisiensi removal PV secara berturut-turut untuk variasi Q1: 15 liter/hari, Q2: 10 liter/hari, dan Q3: 5 liter/hari yaitu 56,6%, 43,3%, dan 35,3%. Sementara itu, untuk parameter nitrat secara berturut-turut yaitu 37,7%, 31,4%, dan 26,7%. Efisiensi removal PV menggunakan media biroing secara berturut-turut untuk variasi Q1: 15 liter/hari, Q2: 10 liter/hari, dan Q3: 5 liter/hari yaitu 66,3%, 55,2%, dan 43,2%. Sementara itu, untuk parameter nitrat secara berturut-turut yaitu 46,4%, 38,4%, dan 32%.

Wastewater is divided into two types based on its source: domestic wastewater and non-domestic wastewater. Domestic wastewater is wastewater generated from activities in residential areas, apartments, and offices. Non-domestic wastewater, on the other hand, is wastewater generated from industrial, agricultural, livestock, and other activities. Liquid waste produced from activities at Poultry Slaughterhouses (RPU) contains a high level of organic compounds, so if not properly treated, it can cause algal blooms. Organic substances in water can be determined by measuring Permanganate Value (PV), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). The primary objective of this study is to determine the efficiency of anaerobic biofilter removal using bioball and bioring media in treating poultry slaughterhouse (RPU) wastewater.
This study was conducted in several stages, namely the research preparation stage and the main research stage. The research preparation stage involved assembling the anaerobic biofilter, preparing the filter media, and conducting the seeding and acclimatisation processes. The main research was conducted by flowing the wastewater into the reactor at different flow rates and testing the parameters every 4 hours over a 24-hour period. In this study, two runs were conducted, with the first run using bioball media and the second run using bioring media. The primary parameters measured in this study were Permanganate Value (PV) to determine organic content using the permanganate titration method and nitrate as an indicator of the denitrification process using brucine acetate.
This study shows that organic load, hydraulic load, and contact time influence the efficiency of organic and nitrate content reduction. High organic load can cause an excess of substrate, leading to faster microbial growth. However, if the organic load is too high, the inner layer of the biofilm may lack substrate due to hindered diffusion. The results of the biofilter study using poultry slaughterhouse (RPU) wastewater with bioball media showed PV removal efficiency for variations Q1: 15 litres/day, Q2: 10 litres/day, and Q3: 5 litres/day, respectively, at 56.6%, 43.3%, and 35.3%. Meanwhile, for the nitrate parameter, the removal efficiencies were 37.7%, 31.4%, and 26.7%, respectively. The removal efficiency of PV using bioring media was 66.3%, 55.2%, and 43.2% for variations Q1: 15 litres/day, Q2: 10 litres/day, and Q3: 5 litres/day, respectively. Meanwhile, for the nitrate parameter, the removal efficiencies were 46.4%, 38.4%, and 32%, respectively.
