Abstract
This final project investigates the coordination of overcurrent relay protection at PT. Pertamina Refinery Unit (RU) VI Balongan, addressing challenges posed by the integration of the refinery’s power system with the state-owned electricity company, PLN. The interconnected systems introduce complexities in relay coordination that require precise modeling and analysis to maintain operational safety and reliability. The study employs a systematic approach involving literature review, data collection of system parameters, single line diagrams, and historical fault data, followed by simulation using ETAP21.0 software to analyze relay behavior under various fault conditions within the integrated network. Focused on phase fault and ground fault relay settings, the results verify the effectiveness and selectivity of relay coordination, minimizing unnecessary power outages while ensuring rapid fault isolation. The findings reveal the significant impact of PLN’s integration on the relay protection scheme and propose optimized settings to improve coordination and reduce electrical disturbances. This research contributes valuable insights for engineers managing complex industrial power systems with multiple power sources and highlights the importance of tailored relay protection strategies in environments undergoing grid integration.
