Abstract
Land use change in the Sidoarjo warehousing area, East Java, has increased the risk of inundation and flooding due to the lack of an adequate drainage system. This research aims to plan an effective drainage system in managing rainwater runoff by applying the zero delta Q principle. This principle ensures that the peak discharge of stormwater runoff before and after land use change does not increase, in line with regulations that prioritise controlling water flow to reduce flood risk. The research methodology included field survey to identify existing conditions, hydrological analysis to calculate runoff discharge, and hydraulic analysis to design optimal channel dimensions. The data used includes historical rainfall, topographic conditions of the area, and existing water flow characteristics. Drainage channel design simulations were conducted by considering channel capacity, safe flow velocity, as well as the need for supporting infrastructure such as retention ponds and pumping systems for low elevation areas. The results of this study show that the implementation of a drainage system designed with the zero delta Q approach is able to reduce the risk of inundation in the warehousing area. The channel design is equipped with a retention pond to accommodate excess runoff and a pump to assist the flow of water to the main channel when elevation conditions do not allow gravity flow. In addition to reducing the risk of flooding, the system also contributes to environmental sustainability by minimising the negative impact of land use change on natural hydrological systems. This research is expected to be a reference in planning drainage systems in other industrial and warehousing areas that face similar challenges, while supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly regional development.
