Abstract

Earth is a dynamic planet whose surface is constantly changing due to various geological processes that have been occurring for billions of years. When the plates of the Earth's crust move, elastic energy accumulates at the plate boundaries until it reaches a point where the material can no longer withstand the stress. At this point, deformation occurs, causing the movement of faults or fractures that trigger earthquakes. An earthquake is the shaking of the Earth caused by the sudden movement or displacement of rock layers in the Earth's crust due to the movement of tectonic plates. The sudden movement of rock layers within the Earth generates energy that can be transmitted in all directions in the form of earthquake waves. A deep understanding of deformation in Indonesia is crucial in improving the preparedness of the community and government for earthquake disasters. Identifying deformation caused by earthquakes is very important because it provides information about movement and pressure within the earth's crust that can trigger earthquakes. In this final project, satellite SAR image data processing using the Time Series InSAR method will be employed for deformation monitoring, which will be validated through terrestrial observations using the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the absolute displacement values and identify the differences in deformation monitoring between the results of the Time Series InSAR method and GPS measurements. Based on the data processing conducted, a mean velocity of 5.2 mm/year was obtained using Time Series processing for the West Java region. Meanwhile, based on GPS processing results, a mean velocity of 19.370 mm/year was obtained using 21 GPS stations spread across West Java. This significant difference is caused by the displacement generated by Time Series InSAR still containing noise, such as noise caused by tall buildings, considering that West Java is one of the provinces with the largest population in Indonesia.
