Abstract
PLN ULP Gondang Wetan.

The reliability and continuity of electrical power supply are critical aspects of power systems, particularly for priority customers such as hospitals and industrial facilities that require a stable and uninterrupted supply. To ensure these requirements are met, an effective and well-coordinated protection system is essential. One of the key components in such systems is the Overcurrent Relay (OCR), which functions to detect and isolate electrical faults caused by overcurrent conditions. Improper coordination of protective relay may lead to unnecessary outages and wider system disturbances, especially overcurrent faults occurs on the priority customers side. In the existing protection scheme, the relay coordination time on the utility which is PLN side is configured too short, preventing adequate coordination time for downstream (costumer-side) relays. This coordination results in the utility side relay tripping before customer side relay can respond, thereby compromising system selectivity and reliability.
This research proposes the optimization of overcurrent relay settings using the Modified Firefly Algorithm (MFA), which is implemented through MATLAB Simulations and validated using ETAP Software. The research is expected to enable the reconfiguration of relay time settings and improve the coordination of overcurrent relays, thereby enhancing protection response and ensuring that disturbances at priority customers do not affect the PLN system as a whole. The Implementation of this research is expected to increase the reliability of the power distribution system at PT. PLN ULP Gondang Wetan.
