Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola penyebaran episentrum gempa bumi serta menentukan zonasi gempa di wilayah Jawa Timur berdasarkan data seismik terbaru, sebagai upaya mitigasi risiko bencana gempa bumi di kawasan rawan bencana. Jawa Timur merupakan wilayah yang rentan terhadap aktivitas seismik akibat lokasinya di zona subduksi aktif antara Lempeng Indo-Australia dan Lempeng Eurasia, sehingga pemahaman terhadap karakteristik kegempaan dan zonasi risiko menjadi sangat penting untuk mendukung perencanaan pembangunan yang tangguh bencana. Penelitian ini menggunakan data katalog gempa bumi dari Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) serta USGS, yang mencakup informasi waktu kejadian, lokasi (lintang dan bujur), kedalaman, dan magnitudo gempa. Data yang dikumpulkan diproses melalui tahapan homogenisasi magnitudo, penyaringan spasial, dan proses declustering untuk memisahkan gempa utama dari gempa susulan. Analisis dilakukan dengan metode Gutenberg-Richter untuk menentukan parameter seismisitas, yaitu nilai a-value (tingkat aktivitas seismik) dan b-value (proporsi gempa besar terhadap kecil), serta magnitudo kelengkapan (Mc) dengan pendekatan Maximum Curvature. Selanjutnya dilakukan pemetaan spasial distribusi episentrum dan nilai b-value menggunakan perangkat lunak GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) untuk memperoleh visualisasi pola seismisitas dan struktur slab subduksi di Jawa Timur. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa episentrum gempa terkonsentrasi di sepanjang zona subduksi selatan Jawa Timur, dengan dominasi gempa dangkal hingga menengah. Distribusi nilai b-value yang rendah di zona ini mengindikasikan potensi bahaya gempa besar yang tinggi. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi ilmiah dalam penentuan zonasi gempa serta menjadi dasar perencanaan mitigasi risiko bencana yang lebih berbasis data dan terarah di wilayah Jawa Timur.

This study aims to analyze the distribution pattern of earthquake epicenters and determine earthquake zoning in East Java based on the latest seismic data, as an effort to mitigate earthquake disaster risks in vulnerable areas. East Java is a region prone to seismic activity due to its location in the active subduction zone between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, making understanding the characteristics of seismicity and risk zoning crucial to support disaster-resilient development planning. This study uses earthquake catalog data
from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the USGS, which includes information on the time of occurrence, location (latitude and longitude), depth, and
earthquake magnitude. The collected data are processed through stages of magnitude homogenization, spatial filtering, and declustering to separate mainshocks from aftershocks. Analysis is conducted using the Gutenberg-Richter method to determine seismicity parameters,
namely the a-value (seismic activity level) and b-value (proportion of large to small earthquakes), as well as the completeness magnitude (Mc) using the Maximum Curvature
approach. Subsequently, spatial mapping of epicenter distribution and b-value is performed using GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) software to obtain visualizations of seismicity patterns and subduction slab structures in East Java. The analysis results show that earthquake
epicenters are concentrated along the southern subduction zone of East Java, dominated by shallow to intermediate earthquakes. The low b-value distribution in this zone indicates a high potential hazard of large earthquakes. This study is expected to contribute scientifically to
earthquake zoning determination and serve as a basis for more data-driven and targeted disaster risk mitigation planning in East Java.
