Abstract
Indonesia's extensive maritime potential offers vast opportunities for salt production; however, the country remains highly dependent on imported pharmaceutical-grade salt, with domestic salt typically containing only 85–89% NaCl. Pharmaceutical industries require salt with ≥99.5% NaCl purity and minimal impurities, such as sulfate (<100 ppm), to meet pharmacopeial standards. This study analyzes various salt purification methods, including washing/hydroextraction, vacuum pan (MEE), MVR, and recrystallization. Based on process comparison and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) evaluation, recrystallization emerges as the most effective method for producing pharmaceutical salt from local raw salt, achieving NaCl purity up to 99.8%. Implementing this technology can reduce import reliance, support domestic pharmaceutical production, and align with national industrial policy goals.
