Abstract

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) merupakan bahan aditif penting yang digunakan luas dalam industri farmasi, makanan, dan kosmetik karena sifatnya yang inert, stabil, serta mudah dimodifikasi. Indonesia saat ini masih bergantung pada impor MCC untuk memenuhi kebutuhan nasional yang terus meningkat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang pabrik MCC dari chip kayu sengon (Albizia chinensis) sebagai bahan baku lokal yang melimpah dan memiliki kandungan selulosa tinggi. Proses produksi MCC dilakukan melalui tahap persiapan bahan, delignifikasi menggunakan NaOH, bleaching dengan H₂O₂, dan hidrolisis asam menggunakan HCl. Berdasarkan hasil seleksi teknologi menggunakan metode AHP, dipilih kombinasi proses yang paling efisien dan ramah lingkungan. Lokasi pabrik dirancang di Kawasan Industri JIIPE Gresik dengan kapasitas produksi sebesar 3000 ton/tahun untuk memenuhi kebutuhan nasional dan mengurangi ketergantungan impor. Studi ini menunjukkan potensi ekonomi dan keberlanjutan tinggi dalam pemanfaatan kayu sengon sebagai sumber bahan baku MCC.

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is an essential additive widely used in pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries due to its inert, stable, and modifiable properties. Indonesia currently relies heavily on MCC imports to meet its growing domestic demand. This study aims to design an MCC plant utilizing sengon wood chips (Albizia chinensis) as an abundant local raw material with high cellulose content. The production process involves raw material preparation, delignification using NaOH, bleaching with H₂O₂, and acid hydrolysis with HCl. Based on the AHP method for process selection, the most efficient and environmentally friendly combination was selected. The plant is proposed to be located in the JIIPE Industrial Area, Gresik, with a production capacity of 3000 tons/year to meet national demand and reduce import dependency. This study highlights the economic feasibility and sustainability of utilizing sengon wood as a raw material source for MCC production.
