Abstract

Indonesia possesses rich natural landscapes and diverse adventure tourism potential, ranging from mountains and beaches to conservation areas. However, public electric vehicle charging stations are rarely found in many of these regions. Therefore, this design project aims to develop a compact SUV concept with an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) drivetrain tailored to support adventure activities across Indonesia. The EREV system allows the vehicle to run purely on electric power for short distances and activates a generator when the battery is depleted during longer trips. Both primary and secondary research were conducted, including user needs analysis, benchmarking of similar vehicles, ergonomic studies, terrain analysis, and selection of chassis and key mechanical components such as the battery and electric motor configuration. To assess SUV styling potential in the Indonesian market, a ternary diagram plotting method was used. The outcome is a rugged SUV concept designed for off-road capability and long-distance travel, targeting a 5-seater layout within the IDR 700 million to 1 billion price segment. The vehicle’s visual design draws inspiration from Mount Bromo, expressing an identity of boldness, strength, and exploration. The project focuses on styling exploration, user comfort, and the selection of technical components and features suitable for adventure terrain.
