Abstract

This study aims to characterize the carbonate reservoir in the “SYL” Field, Cibulakan Formation, using model-based acoustic impedance inversion. This method was chosen for its ability to enhance vertical resolution and provide quantitative estimates of rock physical properties. The inversion process integrates 3D post-stack seismic data, well logs from eight wells, and geological interpretation. The results indicate that the main reservoir zone is located
within a carbonate build-up structure, characterized by high acoustic impedance values (6,000–15,000 ft/s·gr/cc), density <2.45 g/cc, and gamma ray <44 API, which indicates porous limestone lithology. Two prospective zones (Potential 1 and 2) were identified through AI slicing maps and multi-well sensitivity crossplots, consistently observed between the Top MMC and Base MMC horizons. The upside potential zone is located in the northern part of the structure, controlled by lithology and carbonate deposition, and associated with structural traps such as anticlines and normal faults. The applied inversion method demonstrates high correlation and low error when calibrated with well log data, thus this study is expected to support a more efficient and economic development strategy for the “SYL” Field.
