Abstract

As the need for renewable energy sources increases, the cultivation of algae is becoming increasingly important, especially because of its potential as a raw material for sustainable biofuel production. The success rate and production rate in an algae culture can be effectively monitored by measuring its optical density (OD), so that to determine the efficiency of a cultivation method, an in-depth analysis of the optical density data is carried out. This study specifically analyzed optical density data to evaluate the effectiveness of two types of fertilizers ('BAJA A' and 'BAJA B') as well as the effects of different harvest intensities. For this purpose, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method was applied to test the statistical significance of each treatment factor and the possible effects of interactions between the two. The results of the analysis showed that in the early growth phase, the selection of fertilizers had a crucial impact, where 'BAJA A' fertilizer significantly produced a faster growth rate than 'BAJA B' (p−value=0.004). However, in the post-harvest recovery phase, the dynamics change. The factor that has been shown to be significant in influencing the rate of regrowth is the intensity of the harvest (p−value=0.032), not the type of fertilizer used. No significant interaction effects were found between fertilizer type and harvest intensity in this phase. The validity of all these findings is supported by the results of examining statistical assumptions that show that the data have met the requirements for normality and homogeneity of variance
