Abstract

High energy consumption in commercial buildings, primarily due to HVAC system usage, prompted research to analyze the technical and financial feasibility of retrofitting with thermal insulation at Tomoro Coffee Jombang. Through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, validated with field measurement data, this study investigated the impact of fiberglass, sisal fiber, and GEPS insulation materials. Results show the optimal configuration is 6 cm fiberglass insulation with a 6 cm air gap, which successfully achieved ASHRAE 55-2023 thermal comfort standards. The Cost-Benefit Analysis proved very high financial viability with a Payback Period of just 1.41 years, a positive NPV of Rp150,328,741, and a BCR of 5.067, supported by annual electricity savings of Rp12,706,974. Thus, it's concluded that retrofitting with fiberglass insulation is not only effective in increasing thermal comfort but also a highly profitable investment with a quick return on capital for commercial buildings.
