Abstract
Permasalahan kesehatan mental di kalangan remaja sekolah menjadi perhatian penting dalam dunia pendidikan Indonesia. Tekanan aka
demik, rutinitas yang monoton, serta minimnya keterhubungan dengan alam menjadi faktor utama yang memengaruhi tingkat stres siswa. Sekolah Alam Insan Mulia (SAIM) 2 Surabaya merupakan institusi pendidikan yang menekankan keseimbangan antara akademik dan pengembangan karakter, namun masih menghadapi tantangan dalam penyediaan lingkungan fisik yang mendukung kesehatan mental siswa, khususnya pada area makan di lantai lima yang dinilai belum nyaman dan restoratif sebagai tempat siswa beristirahat selepas jam pembelajaran.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang ulang interior area makan SAIM 2 Surabaya dengan pendekatan desain biofilik guna mendukung kesejahteraan mental siswa dalam menjalani kegiatan belajar dan kewirausahaan. Desain ini ditujukan untuk menciptakan ruang yang tidak hanya nyaman secara fungsional, namun juga mampu memberikan efek restoratif secara psikologis melalui integrasi elemen-elemen alami.
Metodologi yang digunakan dalam proses perancangan ini adalah metode desain interior melalui pendekatan Three Method, yaitu: (1) konsep biofilik melengkung dan biomimikri untuk kesejahteraan mental, (2) identitas sekolah sebagai sekolah alam dan islam untuk penguatan nilai-nilai karakter siswa dan sekolah, dan (3) kewirausahaan sebagai bentuk dukungan terhadap program sekolah yang menajdi wadah siswa untuk berinovasi. Proses ini melalui tahapan studi kasus, pengumpulan data (observasi, wawancara, kuesioner), analisis data, pra-desain, prototipe, dan finalisasi desain.
Hasil perancangan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan desain biofilik dengan elemen tanaman, bentuk furnitur dan plafon yang melengkung, serta penggunaan material alami seperti tanaman hidup dan warna-warna yang mendukung psikologi positif mampu meningkatkan kenyamanan dan keterhubungan siswa dengan alam. Selain itu, penyediaan furnitur adaptif, booth kewirausahaan yang menarik, dan area duduk yang mendukung aktivitas belajar informal mendukung kebutuhan fungsional siswa. Validasi desain menunjukkan peningkatan persepsi siswa terhadap kenyamanan dan suasana restoratif di sekolah, khususnya area makan.

Mental health issues among school-age adolescents have become a significant concern within Indonesia’s educational system. Academic pressure, monotonous routines, and limited connection to nature are among the primary factors contributing to student stress. Sekolah Alam Insan Mulia (SAIM) 2 Surabaya is an educational institution that emphasizes a balance between academic achievement and character development. However, the school still faces challenges in providing a physical environment that supports students' mental well-being, particularly in the fifth-floor dining area, which is perceived as lacking in comfort and restorative qualities as a space for students to rest after classes.
This study aims to redesign the dining area interior of SAIM 2 Surabaya using a biophilic design approach to support students’ mental well-being during learning and entrepreneurial activities. The design seeks to create a space that is not only functionally comfortable but also psychologically restorative through the integration of natural elements.
The methodology applied in this design process is an interior design method using a Three Method approach, which includes: (1) biophilic and biomimicry-based design concepts to enhance mental well-being, (2) integration of school identity as an Islamic and nature-based institution to reinforce character values, and (3) the incorporation of entrepreneurship to support school programs as a platform for student innovation. The design process involves several stages including case studies, data collection (observation, interviews, questionnaires), data analysis, pre-design, prototyping, and final design development.
The results show that the application of biophilic design through the use of natural plants, curved furniture and ceiling forms, as well as natural materials such as live plants and psychologically supportive color schemes can improve student comfort and connection to nature. Additionally, the provision of adaptive furniture, visually appealing entrepreneurship booths, and seating areas that support informal learning activities address students’ functional needs. The design validation indicates a positive shift in students' perception of comfort and the restorative atmosphere within the school, particularly in the redesigned dining area.
