Abstract

Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities with high economic value in Indonesia, so it requires attention to the maintenance of optimal soil conditions. The balance of nutrients such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and soil acidity (pH) plays an important role in plant growth and productivity. This research aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based real-time monitoring system of soil NPK and pH levels integrated with RS485-based sensors, Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller, and SIM7000E cellular communication module. Sensor data is sent over the cellular network using the MQTT protocol, stored in the InfluxDB database hosted on a Virtual Private Server (VPS), and visualized through a web application interface. System testing was carried out for seven days with different treatments, namely the application of liquid fertilizer on Thursday and Friday, and without treatment on other days. The validation results showed the accuracy of the pH sensor was 94.73%, while the NPK sensor recorded an accuracy of 91.61% for Nitrogen, 90.03% for Phosphorus, and 91.95% for Potassium. The system successfully transmits data with an update interval of 10 seconds and application response latency of less than 500 ms. Network latency trials showed an average delay of 2 seconds in data transmission time. The system is also able to operate stably in GSM/LTE networks with a signal strength of -70 dBm, even though NB-IoT networks are not yet available at the test site.
