Abstract
Perancangan desain ini menyajikan Unit Perawatan Balita yang ditujukan untuk anak-anak
terlantar, di mana rasio pengasuh-anak yang ada 1:9 menimbulkan tantangan untuk
memberikan dukungan perkembangan yang optimal. Berdasarkan konsep placemaking dan
menggunakan bahasa pola desain sebagai metode, pendekatan ini memetakan dan
menerjemahkan pola perilaku balita menjadi respons spasial yang selaras dengan kebutuhan
mereka. Arsitekturnya dirancang tidak hanya sebagai wadah tetapi juga sebagai guru
lingkungan pembimbing yang menumbuhkan perkembangan kognitif, emosional, dan sosial
pada anak usia dini. Mengacu pada gagasan anak-anak sebagai placemaker yang aktif, desain
ini memperkenalkan bentuk dan elemen spasial yang memungkinkan otonomi, pembelajaran,
dan permainan. Selain itu, strategi spasial panoptik diterapkan untuk memastikan pengawasan
pasif, yang memungkinkan anak-anak bebas untuk menjelajah sambil tetap aman dalam
pandangan, sehingga menyeimbangkan keamanan perkembangan dengan kebebasan.

This design proposal presents a Toddler Care Unit intended for abandoned children, where the
existing caregiver-to-child ratio, 1:9, poses a challenge to delivering optimal developmental
support. Grounded in the concept of placemaking and employing design pattern language as a
method, the approach maps and translates toddlers’ behavioral patterns into spatial responses
that align with their needs. The architecture is designed not only as a container but as a teacher,
a guiding environment that fosters cognitive, emotional, and social development in early
childhood. Drawing from the idea of children as active place-makers, the design introduces
spatial forms and elements that allow for autonomy, learning, and play. Additionally, a panoptic
spatial strategy is implemented to ensure passive supervision, allowing children the freedom to
explore while still remaining safely within view, thus balancing safety with developmental
freedom.
