Abstract

The Automatic Grain Dryer is designed to provide more efficient drying by utilizing a Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) battery as a reliable energy storage system. However, without proper monitoring, VRLA batteries are at risk of overdischarge, which can significantly reduce their lifespan. To address this issue, a battery capacity monitoring system was developed using the PZEM-017 sensor to monitor battery voltage and current in real time. The system displays the State of Charge (SOC) in percentage and issues warning notifications when the battery reaches a minimum SOC threshold, thereby helping to extend battery life and maintain the operational stability of the Automatic Grain Dryer. Performance testing of the battery capacity monitoring system revealed that the average error rate for current measurements was 1.43%, with a maximum accuracy of 99.93%. For voltage measurements, the average error rate was recorded at 0.42%, with a maximum accuracy of 99.91%. These results indicate that the designed system performs reliably in monitoring the SOC of the battery.
