Abstract

Perancangan ini mengajukan solusi arsitektural untuk Gedung Internatio, sebuah cagar budaya penting di Surabaya yang telah lama terbengkalai. Titik berangkatnya adalah dilema fundamental antara dorongan revitalisasi untuk mengembalikan vitalitas bangunan dan keharusan konservasi untuk melindungi integritas historisnya. Tujuan utama perancangan ini adalah untuk memediasi tegangan tersebut, memberikan kehidupan baru pada bangunan tanpa menghapus nilai-nilai masa lalunya
Perancangan ini menggunakan metode Concept Based Framework dan Arsitektur parametrik dengan dilandasi arsitektur parasit sebagai ide utamanya untuk menghadirkan fungsi dan ekstensi bagi gedung internatio dengan tetap menjaga nilai historisnya melalui dialog formal antara bangunan inang dan parasit. Arsitektur parasit tidak hanya berupa sebuah entitas yang hinggap pada inangnya melainkan juga berkontribusi menginterupsi fungsi dan kehadiran inangnya.
Hasil rancangan adalah sebuah massa bangunan baru yang diletakkan di atas gedung internatio. Fitur utamanya adalah sistem struktur independen yang bertumpu pada dua core baru yang diinjeksikan melalui halaman tengah bangunan. Ekstensi ini mewadahi fungsi baru bagi dirinya sendiri dan juga mengaktifkan kembali bangunan inang yang telah lama terbengkalai. Bangunan ekstensi dirancang untuk menjadi katalisator aktivitas publik dan mengaktifkan kembali Gedung Internatio secara fungsional maupun simbolis.

This design project proposes an architectural solution for Internatio Building, an important and long neglected building site in Surabaya. The departure point is the fundamental dilemma between the drive for revitalization to restore the building's vitality and the imperative of conservation to protect its historical value. The main goal of this design is to mediate this tension, providing new life to the building without erasing the values of its past. The design employs the Concept Based Framework and Parametric Architecture, guided by the core idea of Parasite Architecture. This approach aims to introduce a new extension and functions for Internatio building while preserving its historical value through a formal dialogue between the host and parasite. Parasite architecture is presented not merely as an entity that rests upon its host, but as one that actively intervenes in and transforms the host's function and presence. The design result is a new building mass placed on top of the Internatio Building. Its main feature is an independent structural system supported by two new cores injected through the building's courtyard. This extension accommodates new functions for itself while also reactivating the long dormant host building. The extension is designed to be a catalyst for public activity, reactivating Internatio Building both functionally and symbolically
