Abstract
30% volume paling lama kestabilannya dibandingkan kandungan
air 10% dan 20% terhadap volume.

The aim of this study is assessed the effect of loading of surfactant
and water to diesel-water emulsions characteristic as alternative
fuel to be used in diesel engine. Those characteristics will assessed
from the stabilization of diesel-water emulsions. The steps of this
experiment are preparing for surfactant liquid, producing of
diesel-water-surfactant fuel emulsion, and analyzed and assessed.
The experiment variables are variations of sonication, surfactant
loading, and water loading. Characteristic of diesel-water
emulsion determined by the density, viscosity, and visualization
(color) analyses. Results showed that the prepared water-oil
emulsion with sonication exhibited the best stabilization is
sonication process without pulser and with an extra stirred.
Besides that, stabilization of emulsion better with Carboxy Methyl
Cellulose (CMC) as co-emulsifier also called stabilizer.
Experiment used three kinds of surfactant, there are Alkyl Benzene
Sulphonic acid (ABS), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), dan Sorbitan
Monooleate (Span 80). Emulsion with Span 80 exhibited the best
stabilization which have Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance (HLB) in
ranged for water-diesel emulsions, is 4. The surfactant loading
assessed 2% is highest stabilization followed by surfactant loading
1%, 0,5%, and 0,1%. At water loading observation has been found
that 30% water loading by volume given the slowest stabilization
compared with 10% and 20% water loading by volume.
